"What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it."
J.D. Salinger

Joshua Seigal wrote a blog and featured the work of some year 6 pupils, after they got in touch with him to share their work with him. You can read the blog here. |
After contacting Joshua Seigal, following some powerful poetry writing in Y6, Joshua Seigal said this...
"Thank you so much for your message. I can't tell you how meaningful it is to receive messages like this - it really makes my job worthwhile and brings some joy in these very strange times! "I was delighted when Mrs. Baker, the Year 6 teacher at St Dunstan's Primary School in Birmingham, got in touch with me recently to share some poems that her year 6 class had written. The poems were based on my piece 'Just A Book?' which is published in I Don't Like Poetry (Bloomsbury) and which can be viewed online here. One thing that really impressed me about the poems was the rhyming. A tight, coherent rhyme scheme can be difficult to achieve, so I can tell that Mrs. Baker's class worked hard on their poems. Here, then, is a selection of fantastic poem from year 6." - Joshua Siegal |
Year 6 contacted Struan Murray, author of the exciting 'Orphans of the Tide,' after they started reading it, because they were so in love with his writing. They wanted to share their versions of the opening to the book (which, if you read it, will have you hooked). He was so blown away with their work, he even suggested that he might magpie some of their work and quote it in his sequel. Amazing job Year 6! |
"Hi Mrs B! I'm so delighted to hear you're all enjoying Orphans and even more delighted that it's inspired some new writing!...Incredible stuff! 'Grim with the menace of rain' and 'made it feel as if it had been kicked into existence' - so brilliant. I'm probably going to have to steal these for the sequel..." - Struan Murray

On Wednesday 3rd March, during Reading Week, our pupils had the opportunity to interview an author: not just any author, but bestselling author and author of the Diary of a Pig series, Emer Stamp!
They absolutely loved it. What an exciting opportunity for them all! "Thank you so much @EmerStamp for answering all of our questions, we can't wait to read Pest!" |
