School Council
The School Council was first established in 1987. At first the student counsellors were only from key stage two, but in January 2008 key stage one classes were invited to hold elections for counsellors.
There are two counsellors per class- one boy and one girl. To be elected, children have to give a speech in front of their class to tell them why they believe they would be a good school counsellor. Every child in the school has a vote in the school council elections.
School Council meetings are held regularly in the library with a senior teacher. Issues that arise in school are discussed, after the meeting the teacher will report back to the headteacher or to a staff meeting. Feedback and further action plans are always given at the next school council meeting.

Our School Council will uphold British Values by:
- We get to meet with other children from all classes.
- By listening to others we help to make the school a better place for us all to be in.
- We learn how to respect other people’s opinions and understand that everyone has a right to be heard.
- We learn how to accept that sometimes we cannot have all the changes we want and that things do not happen overnight! We may have to wait, which gives us the opportunity to meet with other people who work in our school e.g. Cook and we can share our thoughts and ideas.
- We are aware that our views and thoughts are presented to the staff and the governors.
- We think about our school environment and how we can make it better but we also think about our local environment.
- We think about others through fundraising.
